Help! Algae accumulate!?
I have a 30 gallon Oceanic aquarium glass. It has a goldfish and a fantail goldfish calico pearlscale. Each about 2 inches long. I do a water change 25% every two or three weeks. Algae builds up very quickly. And the ammonia and nitrate / nitrite levels are completely normal. My plastic plants are also having some problems. Each leaf develops brown spots. So I rub the plants in the sink (only with water) and the spots fall. But then develop again in a few days. Algae build up is really bad in the back of my trunk. I can use a debugger of algae when needed. But it's really hard to get all that out. I also wonder, when you use the slider of algae, all algae scraping is released in water, fish can this pain? BIO I have a filter wheel and I can change the cartridge every time I do a water change. Is there an anti-algae product out there that have shown be effective and safe? Please help me!
First, I would not use any other anti-algae product. They kill almost all the algae in the tank, it simply becomes even worse after. The algae needs two things to grow, nutrients, water and light. Be sure not to overfeed the fish are and sure to clean the gravel every time you do a water change. For the next few weeks, you can increase your water changes at 35-40% and then to 25% each week from then. As for the light, make sure no direct sunlight hits your tank. If you do, or move the tank or block light or heavy-bottomed with a thick piece of paper. For the lights of the tank, leave them in no more than 10 hours a day and only as long as you need them at that time. The fish do not really need a light on, so use only when you need to enjoy your tank. Coffee at its plants in plastic is a type of algae and you will greatly improve once these changes start to take an effect on your tank. This will not get rid of all the algae nor kill it overnight, but given a couple of weeks will be reduced to as little barely noticeable. MM
