will more leaves grow on my jasmine vine where they died off?

My plants have been in the same pot for about 5 years and from time to time loose leaves if it gets too hot and no water. Their vines are about 6 feet long and some have only a few leaves. I want them to be bushier. Will more leaves grow on those vines in the spring?

Go around the plant and trim it. where you trim it, it will make two, thus being bushier. Good Luck.
