Ink Collection

Ink Collection
Commission the prices of the artwork?

I have been asked to make a collection of illustrations for a children's book – a professional who is published distributed, and sold in bookstores. They are relatively simple drawings, ink and crayons. The quality will be high, but none of them masterpieces, since it is only going to be mini-illustrations on each page. In total there will be 14-18 pictures plus cover art. I'm a rookie and I had very little work professionally published. The writers (who hired me) are known to me, and I know they are pretty hard-pressed for money at the moment. Originally offered me a share in profits, but want to get paid, no matter if the book sells or not, so I told them that provided the illustrations on a commission basis (ie they had charged a sum for the collection of drawings), plus some of the profits if the book is removed. Is this fair? What is a good price for the collection of drawings (dollars Australians)?

Hello! I think the best idea for this kind of project is to / some / money up front (between $ AU50-300 is fair, depending on size final sales volume), and also a percentage. In this way, you get less in advance, but you have to at least some ongoing revenue, the book focuses on sale. Otherwise, if the book is incredibly popular and sells millions of copies by accident, you still have only the base amount. Just my thoughts.
