Why is Sony cutting so much out of the PS3?

I have the “deluxe” 80GB PS3. The one with 4 USB ports, an Emotion Chip for PS2 games, and a Memory card reader. They still make the 80GB, but none of that stuff is included anymore! Also, the 160GB is the same except with more storage. Will my PS3 become valuable and should I hold on to it? Why is Sony doing this? Shouldn’t they just keep that stuff included? Please, someone give me a detailed explanation.

There are probably a lot of reasons but the most important is cost.

People weren’t using bacwards’ compatibility; most still had a PS2 so what was the point?

Even with the old 40GB, anybody could go out and buy the USB extension to add even more slots, so there would be no use for 4 ports except convenience and no one really uses 4 devices at the same time.

The 160GB is another hope for Sony to reel in more sales. It is set to be sold with Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and it has a huge memory, so it sounds more appealing.
