How much cost of a postage stamp in 1828?

I searched Google and have no idea, and asked Chacha, but said there was no shipping then, but there was, my main teacher told me there, but she did not tell me the exact price. Thank You very much

What follows is taken web page cited below: The postal rates before 1846 were based on the distance the letter was to go. Postal Rates before 1846 were exorbitant and only slightly bit confusing. The shipment was classified by the number of leaves and the distance the mail had to travel. Only in the mail weighing more than 1 oz of weight can not attend. (Letters of more than 1 oz were classified at a rate four and an additional fee for each quarter thereafter oz.) This is the reason more for personal email this period was sent on a single folded sheet which served as the packaging and the card itself. Postal rates from 1799-1816 for simple letters (one page) are following: Distance / Price Less than 40 miles / 8 cents from 41 to 90 miles / 10 cents from 91 to 150 miles / 12 1 / 2 cents from 151 to 300 miles / 17 301-500 miles cents / 20 cents over 500 miles / 25 cents As can be seen in the table above, to send messages to any distance in those days could cost as much as a man made in a day's work. The 1816-1845 postal rates varied slightly in the distance and cost of previous rates, but they were still expensive. In 1846 the rate was fixed at 5 cents per half letters less than 300 oz miles and 10 cents in the letters sent to more than 300 miles. (Rate also 10 cents per letter mailed.) In 1851 the post office finally began a reasonable fee structure with all the traveling half-ounce letters 3000 nominal 3 miles cents.
