can NTSC n64 games work in a PAL system?

My gf recently bought conkers bad fur day off ebay without realizing that it was NTSC. I’ve heard somewhere that the only thing barring n64 being region free was the shape of the cartridge (kinda like megadrive was if i remember correctly).

So we replaced the backing of the NTSC cartridge with a PAL case and it fit but still didn’t work.

So… are we wasting our time trying to get it to work? Or is it just not gonna happen?

no flat out no my freind tried it last summer tried everything he could find but i have herd scine of a couple people doing it but you cant be completely sure
