I'm thinking of starting my own organic plant nursery, anyone have any experience in doing this? Any ideas?
I specialize in sale of edible landscaping plants – fruit trees, vines, bushes, etc. I'm thinking of setting this up on the U.S. west coast in about two years. Anyone have any suggestions on steps you can take now that will help me in the future? Has anyone tried this before?
If you've never grown commercially plants i would suggest getting a job at a greenhouse / nursery. Since you want to go organic I would find one that is certified organic. After that all you have to do is buy land and greenhouses and other buildings of pus the equipment you need to launch and sale of plants. Oh, and you will need Day Care License (required in most states) to sell seedlings. If you want to sell these plants as organic, will need to obtain certification by the USDA NOP. Without organic certification is illegal to use the term organic (in whatever form) and the USDA can fine one person $ 5,000 per offense.
